چکیده
Third year Computer Science students were studied in order to determine which knowledge, skills and strategies they used during anobject-oriented programming task. Quantitative and qualitative methods were used to analyse their computer programs and associatedthinking processes. Successful programmers applied significantly more cognitive, metacognitive and problem-solving knowledge, skills and strategies, also using a greater variety, than the unsuccessful ones. Based on the approaches of the successful programmers,we propose a learning repertoire of integrated knowledge, skills and strategies, which can serve as a framework to support noviceslearning object-oriented programming (OOP). CATEGORIES AND SUBJECT DESCRIPTORS D.3.3 [Programming Languages]: Language Constructs and Features – abstract data types, classes and objects.

Comparing sex offender risk assessment measures on a UK sample.
The purpose of this study on 139 sex offenders was to consider the application of six measures of risk: Static-99, SACJ-Min (Structured Anchored Clinical Judgment Scale-Minimum), RRASOR (Rapid Risk Assessment for Sexual Offence Recidivism), Risk Matrix 2000-Sexual/Violent, and SVR-20 (Sexual Violence Risk-20) and to compare risk assessments conducted by a Regional Secure Unit (RSU) and the Prob...
متن کاملImproving risk assessments for sex offenders: a comparison of three actuarial scales.
The study compared the predictive accuracy of three sex offender risk-assessment measures: the RRASOR (Hanson, 1997), Thornton's SACJ-Min (Grubin, 1998), and a new scale, Static-99, created by combining the items from the RRASOR and SACJ-Min. Predictive accuracy was tested using four diverse datasets drawn from Canada and the United Kingdom (total n = 1301). The RRASOR and the SACJ-Min showed r...
متن کاملThe research foci of computing research in South Africa as reflected by publications in the South African Computer Journal
The South African Computer Journal, better known as SACJ, has, for the last nineteen years, been one of the most pertinent publications for the computing discipline within the South African milieu. In this paper we reflect on the topics of research articles published in SACJ over its first 40 volumes of the journal using the ACM Computing Classification Scheme as basis. In our analysis we divid...
